Osteon Medical is a Finalist in the 2020 Australian Dental Industry Awards

Dec. 10, 2019

Osteon's innovation the "Nexus Solution" (Nexus) is a Finalist in the 2020 Australian Dental Industry Awards - Innovation Category.

Thanks to its unique patent pending design and digital production workflow, the Nexus solutions has been proven to outperform comparable conventional products. F ollowing significant investment in Research and Development, this product then underwent significant testing with the University of Melbourne with the results currently being published in local and international journals. The results indicated the success of the Nexus solution to be considerably stronger (1.5x) and longer lasting (4.2x) compared to conventional methods in market today.

The winner of this category will be announced on the 14th March 2020 at the Australian Dental Industry Awards Dinner.

Feature Case: August 2019 Nexus Bridge

Aug. 28, 2019

Nexus Bridge The client has requested a fixed implant bridge to be designed for the maxillary arch on 4 implants. This case required the incorporation of an internal metal structure that could support 8 missing teeth in Zirconia. Due to the patient being a severe bruxer and limited inter-occlusal space, the client thought a stand alone Zirconia bridge was deemed too risky and more prone to fractures around the OEM Ti base connection. Based on the requirements a Nexus Bridge was chosen. The characteristics of this arrangement allowed for a profile that will incorporate a precision milled implant bar with a telescopically milled Zirconia overlay. This design allows for a much larger surface area to bond the Zirconia to compared to Ti bases. Additionally the subgingival contour could achieve a very smooth transition without the need to consider bulk normally associated with radial minimum wall thicknesses around the OEM Ti base restorations.

New Nexus Bridge Profile

June 25, 2019

We are exited to introduce a new design profile to our popular Nexus Solution.

A true alternative to conventional implant bridge work, the new Nexus Bridge design presents a profile with reduced dimensions to allow more tooth individualization and thicker overlay material whilst maintaining the strength advantage of a precision milled Titanium framework.

Using the internal titanium bar allows you to restore implants of any angulation and sub-gingival depth without the need to use short Ti bases or customised abutments. This profile also allows a very smooth and homogeneous pontic and intaglio design.

To find out more information on this new profile or to discuss an upcoming case, please feel free to contact us today and find out about our "Nexus Bridge" introductory offer.

Feature Case: June 2019 Wrap Around

June 6, 2019

Wrap Around Hybrid

The client has requested a fixed implant hybrid to be designed for the mandibular arch on 6 implants. This case also required the incorporation of full contour metal posterior teeth designed to increase strength in the posterior and distal extensions, due to patient being a severe bruxer and limited inter-occlusal space.

Based on the requirements a Titanium wrap around was chosen. The characteristics of this arrangement allowed for a profile that will incorporate a precision milled implant bar with individual tooth retention.

The design also allows for full contour metal posterior teeth to be milled directly into the bar as a complete mono-bloc. This will significantly help with resistance to wear over time considering the patients para-functional activity.

April 9, 2019

Crown Bar

The client has requested a fixed bar to be designed for the maxillary arch on 6 implants. The client has also requested the design to incorporate individual crowns which will be permanently bonded to the framework.

Based on the requirements a fixed crown bar was chosen. The characteristics of this arrangement allow for a profile that will incorporate individual crowns. These crowns are intended to be bonded to the framework whilst still allowing access to the retaining screws.

The profile of the bar also incorporates polished lingual and intaglio surfaces so that any lingual bulk can be kept to a minimum, this profile also aids in longer term maintenance and cleanability between the appliance and soft tissues.

Osteon Medical features in Bite Magazine

Jan. 14, 2019

As the CEO of Osteon Medical, Michael Tuckman leads an innovative digital company that runs a state-of-the-art facility. Here, clinicians and laboratories can send cases that require digital production of implant prosthetic products. While there are similar facilities in Europe, Osteon Medical is the first commercial advanced implant production facility in Australia that uses only industrial graded machinery for their production.

The innovative facility uses advanced digital design and manufacturing techniques to precision-mill high-quality and safe implant prosthetics and solutions for use in implant dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.

“We thought it would be great to develop our products in Australia partnering with Australian universities to help commercialise them,” says Tuckman. “We’ve refined our products so much that now it can be a completely digital process end to end. For example, we’re able to access an intra-oral digital file and produce an entire Nexus Plus digital hybrid incorporating teeth, gingival and titanium substructure all seamlessly integrated into a one-piece device.”

The company has gone from success to success, now exporting many of its products into Asia. Recently the ADIA awarded Osteon its New Exporter’s Grant. This will enable them to exhibit their products at the International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne, Germany in March 2019. With over 150,000 potential customers attending the IDS, it’s an opportunity for Australian-made solutions to expand into international markets.

Custom Primary Bar

The client requested a fixed bar to be designed for the maxillary arch on 3 zygomatic implants. This case also required the incorporation of an over-denture style attachment which then allows the patient to easily engage and disengage the secondary denture on a regular basis.

Due to a total Maxillectomy in the affected region, this case like many any others we have completed has a complex combination of asymmetrical tissue geometry and acute implant angulations.

Based on the requirements a fixed Primary Bar with cross arch support pillars was chosen. The characteristics of this arrangement allowed for a profile that will help tripodize the 3 implants whilst allowing the patient to easily clean the intaglio surfaces. The attachment system chosen for this case was the Zest Locator, placed in a such a way to help disperse the axial load during function.
